Study Investigators

Thomas Crossley is Director of PSID and a Research Professor at the Institute for Social Research, University of Michigan. Dr. Crossley is an economist with interests in economic data, survey methods, and household financial behavior.

Narayan Sastry is Associate Director of PSID, Director of the PSID Child Development Supplement and Transition into Adulthood Supplement, and Research Professor at the Institute for Social Research, University of Michigan. Sastry's research interests center on social and spatial dimensions of health, development, and well-being of children and adolescents. He is the Co-Director of the Los Angeles Family and Neighborhood Survey and is the Director of the Displaced New Orleans Residents Survey.

Esther Friedman is Associate Director of PSID and Research Associate Professor at the Institute for Social Research at the University of Michigan. Friedman is a sociologist and demographer whose research focuses on health and aging, family caregiving, long-term care, and dementia.

Noura Insolera is Assistant Director of PSID and Assistant Research Scientist at the Institute for Social Research, Survey Research Center at the University of Michigan. Dr. Insolera is a quantitative sociologist whose interdisciplinary research focuses on food insecurity, social safety net participation, and health over the life course and across generations.

Katherine McGonagle is a PSID Principal Investigator and Research Professor at the Institute for Social Research, University of Michigan. Dr. McGonagle is a social psychologist with research interests in the areas of survey research methods, health, and well-being.

Charlie Brown is a PSID Co-Investigator, Research Professor at the Institute for Social Research, Survey Research Center, and Professor of Economics at the University of Michigan. Dr. Brown previously served as Principal Investigator and Director of PSID. He is an empirically-oriented labor economist with current research interests focused on the effects of pensions and labor supply of salaried workers.

Wei Zhao is a PSID Co-Investigator and Research Assistant Professor at the Institute for Social Research, Survey Research Center, at the University of Michigan. Dr. Zhao's work spans several areas of genetic epidemiology, including gene discovery, gene-environment interaction, social epigenomics, functional genomics, and risk prediction.

Paula Fomby is an external affiliate of PSID. She is a Professor of Sociology at the University of Pennsylvania. Her research focuses on the relationship between family organization and child development in the context of social and economic inequality.

Frank Stafford is Research Professor Emeritus at the Institute for Social Research and Professor of Economics Emeritus at the University of Michigan. Dr. Stafford’s current research interests include household saving and wealth accumulation, human capital formation, time use, and the impact of monetary policy on household spending and portfolio adjustment.

In Memoriam

Bob Schoeni was a Research Professor at the Institute for Social Research, Survey Research Center, and Professor of Economics and Public Policy at the University of Michigan. Dr. Schoeni was a key member of the PSID research team over two decades 2001-2021 as a Co-Director, Principal Investigator, and Co-Investigator. His research focused on welfare and poverty, economic and demographic aspects of aging, socioeconomic disparities in health, and labor economics.
